Wowzers! what a triumphant rumpus the second BOBI gig was at the Queen of Spades, the new home of live original music in Bostonia. With our esteemed DJ pairing of Kevin Lockyer and Johnny Cabbage spinning classic 7" smashers to warm us all up, as if we needed it, it was all set to go off, and go off it did.
Pothole got things underway with their radged Fenland Power Violence. The most extreme fifteen minutes the Queen of Spades will ever have seen. As always, a hoot.
Wonderful mellifluous tuneage next from Peterborough's A Great Notion, and it certainly was a great idea to get Jordy and the gang back in Boston for the first time in yonks.
Local musician Allie Argent up next and we were treated to a fabulous set of evocative and haunting, singer songwriter-y, heart string tugging and it was most marvellous too.
Picking the pace up were headliners, and my second time bumping in to 'em this weekend, the highly energetic Steel City shredders Shreds. What a set! Like listening to DRI on yer ghetto blaster in 1988 while showing off to folk on yer BMX but falling off and then getting back up and doing it all again, riding over home made ramps and stuff and then having to quickly move it when a car came down the road and then getting everyone to lie down in a line on the other side of it so you could jump over them all but you catch the last kid on the end with yer peddle or back wheel and get done off of his Mam. It got a bit daft by now and the infamous Boston pit antics were in full display: Rugby scrums, Sports Day, Slaps, Pyramids ... Boston eh? Normal service has been resumed.
