Back to the Queen of Spades for another night of live and original music courtesy of the Boston Original Bands Initiative. Bit of an acoustic feel to most acts tonight and as one band had pulled out we we were fortunate to have not one, but two last minute replacements in town for a gig elsewhere, who stepped in to save the day.

LE CHAT VIOLET[1] opened in the shape of Katie Gittins and her Viola. A wonderful set of fiddling, folksy frolics, mixing tunes and vocals, it was a most endearing opening.

Next up was REBEL HYMN[2], another one person act, though this time with an acoustic guitar. A fine line in poppy, and heartfelt at the same time, numbers, the tunes were flying out and the room was filling up nicely.

Third on the bumper bill were CORAL SUN[3] who surprised me greatly, and delightfully, I must say. A two piece combination of drums and electric guitar, I was reminded of Cowboy Junkies by the marvellous mellow, yet maudlin, tunes that came from the duo. Great stuff.

Time for the only "full band" of the night and local loons TINY FOREHEAD[4] played an absolutely blazing set of raw, rocking garage-y Rock n' Blooming Roll. The crowd woke up and the dance floor was full of feral Fen Folk as the 'Forehead knocked out a proper rumpus of a set. They just get better!

Topping the bill are one of Lincolnshire's finest acts: Gothic Country duo OLD BOY OF THE FENS[5]. Dealing with the bleaker and more macabre side of Lincs life, the two men in black treated us to a fie set of gloomy tales from the dark side. Like if Johnny Cash was from Pinchbeck ... Another fabulous night at the Queen of Spades with BOBI!
